I also doubt that the Battery Pack A would be a sound point of attachment to
a tripod if a VERY heavy lens was mounted, but have always found mine
adequate with my A70-210 F4 zoom, which is a considerable weight. It would
be a worry with one of the 300s that don't have a tripod collar. Anything
longer or heavier should have its own mounting point, and certainly
shouldn't be hung unsupported from any camera mount regardless of how strong
the camera's tripod socket is.
The Power Cord A is the perfect solution for those who don't trust the
Battery Pack A's tripod socket. You mount the camera and motor (no battery
pack) to the tripod, the battery pack is joined with a 3 meter cord. As a
bonus the Battery pack A then becomes a remote release, using its vertical
shutter release.
