I've seen the low quality reproductions you're talking about and I must admit
that I thought the cameras were capable of much better, based on the pixel
count.
I'm suspecting that the low quality comes either from overcompression (to fit
more images on the memory card, or to transmit faster through the cellphone
or whatever) or cropping, which digital just doesn't have the resolution to
support.
