I don't think the international copyright agreements have any say over
laws about who owns a copyright.  My understanding iss that the
international agreement only extends a copyright from one country to
another.  i.e. if you have a copyright in France, then you copyright
extends to the USA regardless of what US law says about photographers
and copyrights.

The bottom line is that if you want to be secure, put a statement about
copyright ownership in your contract.  No one is going to argue with
that.
