Hi Tom, (et al)

UFG (Ultra Fine Grain) is made by Ethol, the people that make LPD (Long
Lasting Paper Developer). Yeah, clever acronyms. They also make Accufine,
Diafine and a bunch of other film and paper developers. Most of their
products seem to rate films at much higher EI's, but claim that you are not
pushing the film, but rating it for the developer being used. For instance,
Tri-X can be rated at 400 and developed for 3 minutes or at 1280 for 5 1/4
minutes in UFG. Some of their developers are 2 bath, with universal
development times and temperatures. Many of their developers are
compensating and will help to keep your highlights from getting blown out.
I've not run any extensive tests at this point and wasn't really planning on
using these chemicals until I saw how much better my T-Max 3200 negatives
looked compared to the Xtol batch. By the way, if anyone wants to get
brochures, you can contact Acufine or Ethol (same company apparently) at
5441 N. Kedzie Ave., Chicago, IL 60625. Their phone numbers are different
however 312-588-8601 (Acufine) or 312-478-7111 (Ethol). You might check the
area code as my catalogs are several years old. Anyone else out there using
these chemicals? Jim
