Gregory,And a user-settable parameter determines whether spot metering or matrix metering is used with the AE memory lock, which means it's not so convenient to switch between them. The matrix metering is supposed to be good, but if I were looking somewhere else to get the exposure it almost seems like I should use spot metering, since matrix metering would get a reading based on a whole scene that's not the scene I wanted to shoot. Is there any strong arguments for keeping that set to matrix or spot? Thanks.
I actually think that switching between matrix and spot metering is very convenient on the ZX-L. I leave function F5 permanently on spot metering. If I want spot metering, I just push the AE-L button.
With my Nikon N80, you had to flip a switch to go into spot metering. I always forgot to switch back to matrix metering after switching to spot. With the ZX-L, it switches back automatically. I think its much better.
Regarding the ZX-L, I think it is a very nice little camera. Inexpensive, small and lots of useful features. No camera is perfect, but for $229, its works pretty well and gives you access to some very nice pentax lenses. I have the FA 35 F/2 and the FA 50 F/1.4, which are both outstanding lenses.
Please feel free to ask any other questions about the ZX-L.
