Hi Dave,
you could with good success butcher up one of the following for a
   very good vertical release button...

   1) D1x - the vertical release includes a lock. Perfect. ;-)
   2) D100/F80's vertical grip. Also with a lock. cheaper than above
   ;-)

   3) perhaps the button/locking collar for above as a spare part, if
   friendly with any nikon tech?

   4) any one of the super-cheap 3rd party ME-series winders. They
usually have a collar with off-single-cont. which you could wire up
as locked/unlocked/meter&af on , and the center release as the
release. This could be the best, better than finding a good
microswitch and figuring how to put it in place. A broken 3rd party
winder for M pentaxes is really really cheap.

   5) a microswitch button from a good electronics store, preferably with
rubber gasket or something. Also another switch for locking the shutter
release against accidental releasing. Not as nice as above, but
   cheapest.

don't forget that you can wire it up so a second button engages the
metering & af but doesn't release the shutter, good for continuous
   mode.

Best regards,
   Frantisek Vlcek
