I'm afraid this doesn't make much sense to me, in two ways. First it
means that people like me who prefer to compose within the frame
rather than cropping wouldn't be able to, and 2nd because you seem to
have the tail - the available paper and/or film formats - wagging the
dog of composition. Since the square is such an important shape in
composition it makes more sense to me to have viewfinder frames which
support it and match the film, sensors and paper to the frame, just as
painters will make a square frame and stretch the canvas over the frame.
