It's been a long time since I posted to the pentax list. Probably too long.
Anyway...

I am in a predicament. My MX is broken. It is my #1 body at the moment, as
I'm a student who has yet to scrounge enough money for something newer, more
modern, bigger, better, etc. So I really need this camera. My ME is a
backup, and really doesn't suffice considering that it isn't manual. So, all
this being said, I need some advice.

The MX will need somewhere in the range of $220 - $290 CDN worth of repairs,
because the shutter curtains are toast. I paid $300 for this camera, so the
repair costs are pretty high considering it's replacement value. That being
said, if I just replaced this camera with another used body, there is a
possibility of experiencing another round of hefty repair costs. If I get my
current MX overhauled completely, I could at least trust it won't be likely
to fail any time soon.

I want to know if I should get the camera fixed, or instead look to replace
with something new, or perhaps something newer. Should I suck it up and fix
the thing and use it for another 5-10 years, or should I throw it out for
good? I am not totally interested in spending $500+ on a new (or at least
new to me) camera, but then again, $300 in repairs isn't very appealing
either. I understand this is a tough set of questions to answer, but I need
to hear from severl viewpoints on this issue.

So what would you do?

thanks,
