I think it's not likely more due to the facts that there are unwanted trade- offs of lower dynamic range, higher noise and reduced sensitivity for small sensor pixel areas. It seems that around 14-16M pixels is the optimum sensor density for full frame 36x24mm sensor using current technologies.
