Hi Lasse,
I have the scan speed.
I bought it about a year ago from a shop nearby, upgrading to Nikon (same
story as you!).
I was told (and I believe) it was not used for more than 50 films. So in
fact it was brand new and I got full garantee.

I use it with the original software. This software is not very flexible and
does not have many features, but I can not complain about the quality of the
scans. I have used it for colour, b+w and slides. The only thing I usualy do
before scanning, is cropping and adjusting levels for a slightly higher
gamma, because I like shadow details and it is better to do that before
scanning and not afterwards.

I donot know how it compares to The Dimage Scan Dual III. The minolta
importer here told me that the Scan Speed was a very good scanner with the
same sensor as the Scan Elite. I donot know how a Hi-end scanner of two
years ago compares to a "medium-end" scanner like the scan dual, of today.
But I have difficulties to believe the remark of Bruce that this scanner now
is worth no more than 100USD
My Scan Speed never showed problems with the high dynamic range of slides. I
donot know how this is with the cheaper scanners today.
What I like in modern scanners, is the ability of batch scanning! But this
has more to do with convinience than with scan quality.
If you decide to try Vuescan, I like to hear your experiences.

Greetings, Jos

Minolta has recently come out with a Dimage Scan III which is selling
here for around $300, and is probably a much better scanner. I wouldn't
pay more than $100 for it, nor would I invest in Vuescan for it: not
worth it.
