Joe,

I haven't done this with the 280 but have done it with a number of
other flashes.

Depending on the height and colour of the ceiling you will lose 2 to 3
stops from the bounced flash (assume 2 for a normal height white
ceiling).  This should mean that you end up with still about 1.5 to 2
times the light reaching the subject from the bounced flash than from
the RTF (depending on the output of the RTF, but I'm being rough in my
estimates here).  It should look good enough.  

The best way to tell for sure is to do some test shots.  Just find
someone pretty, tell them you need to see if something works, line them
up and shoot them.
