I suppose the statemnet "features that people DO need" (because, like, I
have to have tidy posts and I have to include some refernces to what we're
discussing) is rather nebulous.. How do you decide what features someone
does need?

I think what I was getting at are things like... A spot meter, a quality
matrix meter, quiet motor drive of reasonable speed (which is, in itself,
a pretty open ended statement), DOF preview, high flash sync, etc.

Basically, I meant a camera with a wide and reasonable feature set of the
common, useful items and less of the more esoteric features... like power
zoom, eye control, 10fps (or even the option of 10fps with booster pack)
and other silly little things that are used rarely, if that, and just
increase the price for no other reason than its a "professional" camera.
