I used to teach photography at a girls' school, and it was nice to be able to point out that there have been significant female photographers virtually from the medium's beginnings until now. (Many significant scholars too--Maria Morris Hambourg at the Met, Anne Tucker in Texas, Sarah Greenough, Naomi Rosenblum, to name a few).
