I don't got much feedback from my posting on other forums too. Maybe people are getting used to the inaccuracy of AF at marco range, or people just don't care about the performance of an unknown film camera called MZ-S from a small ancient company called Pentax. I bet, if the test result is about EOS-D60's or D100's AF system, the feedback would have been liked a landslide.
Nevermind, at least I know what to expect from my camera's AF and I won't try it in macro works.

Henry Chu

Subject: MZ-S AF accuracy and the Dutch
Date: Wed, 05 Feb 2003 10:05:31 +0100
Hello!
It's been a while since I promised the results of your MZ-S AF post in a dutch photo news group. I had hoped to get thousands of replies, equally devided among all camera brands, with a resulting table of scientificly trustable data.
Must say that I do not have any of such. Even worse, I feel a bit ashamed of my Dutch-co-photographers who did not get any further with this discussion than arguing about the use of the experiment.
"What should this be good for?"
"Knowing if one can trust his camera, I suspect"
"One should, that's why one buys a SLR, right?"
"Yeah, but mine sometimes have problems with the mirror setting."
"Ow. You should fix that before taking new pics."
...
So; I honestly do not expect any more stuff. The photo labs in Holland may be slower than in the US (are they?) but I do not think that they are somewhere processing the pile of experimental pictures I was hoping for.
Too bad.
Well, let's keep positive: the dutch did not report having these problems. This may be caused by the fact that most dutch are living beneath sea level. (Could it be an altitude problem? <g>)
It may as well be caused by the fact that Dutch do not have time for the experiment. (So: there are a lot of assignments here? <g>)
There is a very small chance that they do not take Henry seriously. This is a major problem that I hope to address in a future post.
Bye!
Syb

Dear Heiko,
Thank you for your interest on my testing.
You can see the photos showing the test target and the equipment arrangement from the following links:
http://www.irenhenry.com/photosharp/focus-test-3D.jpg
http://www.irenhenry.com/photosharp/focus-test-section.jpg
The following is a clearer scan showing the typical result from the centre AF sensor of my MZ-S:
http://www.irenhenry.com/photosharp/mzs_focustest_centre01.jpg
It has shown that the sharpest focused area is about 5mm-10mm in front of the target. Quite a disappointing result from my MZ-S.

Hi Henry,

Really interesting test. Could you scan the test target and write
something about the test procedure? I would like to make this test with
my MZ-5n AF.
Regards, Heiko
