<<What Fuji film are you comparing Supra to? NPS, NPH and NHG are all
quite mellow, and while Reala is more punchy, it certainly isn't overly
saturated like the consumer films.>>
SUPRA is formulated to be 100 scannable using KODAK channels.
"Comparing" KODAK Professional SUPRA-PORTRA emulsions to FUJI "pro" film,
SUPRA-PORTA (VC emulsions excluded) are both medium contrast films with
"accurate" colors as opposed to "punched up" emulsions, which most FUJI
products, slides or print, "pro" or consumer, are.
But you knew that.
Aaron<<: I don't really have any access to Supra (because I don't stock
Kodak's colour products), so I can't compare directly; I have scanned it, but
nothing about the
experience jumps out at me as being exceptional. >>
Two things at work here: 1) you don't have access to SUPRA because you don't
stock SUPRA (or KODAK emulsions)
2) you haven't had enough exposure to SUPRA to make any kind of informed
decision about it.
*You might read the NOVEMBER? 2000 Shutterbug review on SUPRA. As you are a
technician, you'll appreciate the technical side of his SUPRA report.
~ANYONE~, but anyone, who wants access to nearly any presently produced film,
SUPRA included, can buy it from B&H. I purchase ~all~ my film from them all
the time.
What is also evident is that many retailers (yourself) don't stock PENTAX
(KODAK) (SUPRA) because of personal biases. Do you promote KODAK film or FUJI
exclusively? Do ~you~ prefer to shoot FUJI rather than KODAK?
FUJI ~rather than~ KODAK?
Too many camera stores cater to the whims of the owner, pushing those of us
in search of a PENTAX SLR camera or KODAK "pro" film out the door, our
Visa/MC plastic still sheathed, unfulfilled.
We (my brother(s) and me, will open a "Vacation picture store" specializing
in passport and ID badges. Shooting Passports will be our prime interest, but
we will have film, one-use cameras, inexpensive P&Shoots, one-day film
processing-nearly all the paraphernalia of a "real" camera store (probably no
tripods or photo vests-etc.).
As the buyer, I guarantee you'll even find some of that cheap, $1.49
Mitsubishi ISO 100 stuff in our shop. If Mitsubishi, why not SUPRA?
