The "good" Nikon G lenses also have other features that can't be properly utilized by bodies that can't fully use G lenses, like AF motor in lens and VR. You need a current body to make best use of the body anyway, besides control of the aperture from the body. This hasn't stopped the wailing of some Nikon users though.
