The camera has everything it needs to determine the right aperture
with an A lens (or a masked mount M / K for that matter):
effective aperture = wide open aperture (read via electric contacts)
+ relative aperture (read via mechanical coupling)
So this is not a privilege of the F/FA lens series.

This is one of the Pentax misdoings. They chose to display only
digitally transmitted apertures when they clearly had the
possibility to convert the analog apertures received via mechanical
coupling to any of predefined values stored in the camera firmware.
