As if this cost was never included in the purchase price in the first place. Allowing vendors to add a 'cover charge' to recoup credit card transactions is just the banks way of handing their large retailer mates a nice little 1-3% retail price rise(both of which are incidentaly cross-owned by large share holdings in each type of business). We have always paid for this cost in all and any dealings involving credit or EFT transactions. Nothing has ever been for 'free'. If as a small vendor you advertise a price that does not include all your 'cost of goods sold' expenses, well then you are not too bright and will go broke. If you want to add costs after the advertised price, then understandably people will be a little upset. Why not offer a 3% discount for people who don't use Paypal. Include the 3% in your original price, then offer the discount. This is a more attractive option for the consumer. They think they are getting a better deal.

Cheers

Shaun

Which violates the merchant agreement. At least it used to. They get away with it because nobody complains.

In Oz it's now legal for any vendor to add a percentage for card transactions.
