Mike,
One person's poor experience with a product is not indicative of the quality
of that product. As has been noted, the extremes of temperature may have
played a part, as might have the care and maintenance programs of the owner.
*A BMW will shake rattle and roll with the worst of automobiles if not
properly maintained.

To date, the operational history of PENTAX FA* lenses has been quite
remarkable and speaks more highly for the breed and PENTAX than one letter
from one disgruntled owner.

owned have had the metal window over the focusing scale loose right out of
the box; brand new. One of my lenses needed internal cleaning after one year.
Now my FA* 200/4 macro is gone busted. The window eventually fall off and got
broken...... The metal part is absolute crap. It can teared to pieces
with my fingers.
So here you have (another)lens made partly of scrap metal glued in place
with double sided tape! ........ This isn't worthy of an expensive
Pentax lens and problem have existed for years now."
