Thats why it is so important for Pentax to come up with something that grabs people
imagination or gear lust. Just another DSLR, even if small, won't do the trick. Even
Pentax fanatics like me will stop and reconsider. I'm personally very attracted to the
not full frame DSLR as this make super telephoto work into a dream with the promise of
"good enough" image quality. The prospects, as they seem right now from my
perspective, is Nikon and Olympus. Both promises smaller lenses to suit the sensor.
Olympus promise a pro grade, sealed magnesium body and nobody doubts Nikon will do
something similar. In addition, Nikon have Sient Wave lenses and VR. God knows what
Olympus have. So far pentax doesn't offer me anything except "a nice DSLR", but then
who doesn't except Minolta?
At least Olympus have their own vision of what a DSLR is all about. You can like or
dislike this vision but is really beside the point.
The fact is that the moment when people are switching to, or adding digital in the
form of slr's, is the moment they are likely to make major commitment and hence,
switch brands. The *ist D is good enough but being good enough is not good enough when
it comes to Pentax unfortunately.
