Jose, I think it's the other way around. Of course the AF280T works with a 85mm lens, it just wastes light by illuminating the scene to a 28mm width.
The AFT1 adapter says 135mm on it's fresnel lens, so my guess would be optimum use at 135mm and OK use beyond that. This fits with my experience with the adaptor. It does focus the flash output!
