I pick the AF sensor so it is framed right, then shoot. This works with either a moving or stationary subject. How do you lock and recompose on something moving diagonally towards you?
Crossed sensors are both aimed at the same thing so there isn't more chance of error of picking the wrong thing. There is just a better chance that one of them will focus on the right thing.

Yes, i would like to know as well. In fact, I am on my first AF camera, and Im only have three AF sensors. One in the middle, and one either side of that. Apparently I can switch between them. Why?

I only ever use the middle sensor. Frame up the focus, lock, re-frame, shoot. Isn't this how everyone does it??
