Folks,

Just got back my first roll of Neopan 400, and my first glance at
the proofs earned a raised eyebrow. Most of the shots look like
something halfway between Tri-X and TMax, but a few have a very
Tri-X look in terms of contrast and sharpness while feeling
"softer" in some regard that I can't put my finger on. (Just
_feels_ "softer" than Tri-X to my eye, but I can't see what it
is that's creating that feeling yet. Like I said, the detail
and contrast are there.)

I haven't looked at the negs yet -- my guess is that the less
TMax-ish shots were ones where I gave a little more exposure
than the meter said, but I need to actually check that.

How does this fit with other folks' impressions of Neopan 400?
Have others noted that dramatic change in tonality?

(And no, I don't know what soup the lab used -- I'll have to make
a note in my DayRunner to ask them when I go back there next
week.)

The ones that look a lot like TMax I can live without, but if
the effect is controllable, the almost-Tri-X-but-different look
is pretty cool and will make a nice change of pace from Tri-X
once in a while.
