Hi Boris: The way I see it, it will depend on whether you want to engage the subject or not.
If you do not want to engage the subject, one technique is to have your camera prefocused and preset and at the right time simply raise it discreetly to the eye level and release the shutter. The raising-exposure-lowering the camera takes less than a second. Also, what works well for me is to wear the camera around my neck horizontally and holding it with my right hand with my pointing finger on the shutter release. The lens is prefocused on the hyperfocal distance with the aperture at f:16 or so. Fast film like XP-2 Super is perfect for this. I expose without looking through viewfinder aiming the camera in the general direction of the subject. Using a K35 f:3.5 (28 mm would also be good) I got some photographs I could never get any other way. With practice, the framing is surprisingly accurate. It helps if you avoid eye contact with the subject which makes you sort of invisible photographer. The street noise tends to drown the shutter noise. An ME would be good for this method but the 50 mm is probably to long for reasonable framing. Hope it helps, - Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: Boris Liberman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: March 5, 2003 11:01 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: On Topic or Seeking some advise Hi! The idea of (candid/stealth) street photography keeps crossing my mind more and more often. Since I never did this, I am asking those of you who are experienced in such a thing for advise. Namely, would ME Super and 50/1.7 lens be a good way to start. I really think that AF and film advance noise of ZX-L is a bad thing here. So what could I start with? I would appreciate any hints/help/advise, etc... Thanks in advance. --- Boris Liberman www.geocities.com/dunno57 www.photosig.com/viewuser.php?id=38625
