To me it seems like lhe largest market failure... If people still want the darn thing, why not make it new, sell it, etc. Why discontinue your best selling model?
Because the truth is, it didn't sell well. The reason it had been offering for 20 years was that they manufactured too many parts, and they listed them for as long as the remaining parts were available. In fact, the LX was discontinued since the 90's except in Japan. What made the LX special is the fact that it has been the only true 135 professional model from Pentax, not that it's particular great or reliable, imho. But then my opinion represents the minority or none of the Pentax fans (btw, I am a Pentax fan, just not the diehard type). :-)
Any economists out there? :)) In this aspect Nikon's policies make a lot moresence. The FM-2n was improved and replaced by a model very similar to it...
I bet the FM2 series was a lot more successful than the LX, financially & reliability. But then the FM2 wasn't meant to be a professional model so it's not a fair comparsion. :-)
What was the model that replaced the LX? (has the same feel, etc.)
I thought the LX was so great it didn't need to be updated or replaced? Isn't that true? :-)
