Having said that, this photo shows that it is possible to take nice macros without stopping down to f/32 ;) I must take my macro lens for a walk around the botanical gardens. Haven't done that for a while.
The reason I have used wide open quite often lately is that I have seen many macro shots in Japanese magazines and many of them were shot wide open, or near wide open. They are quite different from what I have seen in US magazines.
