When I say "rumour," I'm referring to the fact that I've heard almost
every number of cross-sensors from 3 to 11.

As for functionality, a cross-sensor should be sensitive to both
horizontal and vertical lines when the camera is held horizontally; did
you test this?  What you described could be achieved by a sensor that
changes the direction of its alignment when held vertically (like the
Maxxum 7 changes the alignment of its LCD info when held vertically).
Hmmm... come to think of it, is this even possible?
