As Bruce said, evaluative metering usually does a very good job overall, especially with print film. But if you enjoy taking the time to expose a subject precisely, you're doing fine. The MZ-5n's spotmeter (was that what you're using?) covers a 2.5% area, so you might want to pick up a handheld spotmeter with a 1% coverage if you want, but I doubt that you'll notice a difference.
