For subjects moving through the DOF quickly: I consistently got sharp
pictures with K 135/2.5 and snap in focus of people running towards me.

As for unattended pictures: I've set a macro rig with flash pointed
towards a flower and took care to have the central AF sensor
covering an out-of-focus area. I left the camera set on continuous
shooting and had the shutter locked on trigger by the remote cable release.
An hour later, the whole film was exposed. All pictures were of
full-framed bees, and only a couple were not sharp. I think one was
interesting enough. I guess it's a good scientific tool but that's
  all.

Note: in all cases the day was bright enough; the AF sensor needs good
illumination for snap in focus to cope with fast moving subjects,
just as genuine autofocus needs too.
