Since I don't have a tool with mine, I just use my thumb-nail to press the little spring toward the center of the opening and twist counter-clockwise. I have heard of having a problem with off-brand converters, but not with the genuine Pentax converter. I suspect that the tool is not pressing the spring in completely.
