I second Xtol. Have tried it in Rodinal, XTOL and Pyro, and like XTOL
best. Then again, I think everything looks best in XTOL.

Collin - TMAX is a fairly "pushy" developer. It will pull more shadow
detail then some other developers, but you might not like it's other
characteristics. It's sort of like TMZ - sure, it's fast, but not
exactly pretty as compared to Tri-X, or in this case, XTOL.

Rodinal is ok too, but I always got compressed midtones. Never figured
out the magic combo for Rodinal....

If you're worried about shadow detail, you should be worrying about
exposure, not developer.
