This weekend I'm taking a workshop with Baron Wolman, whose main
reputation is founded on the many covers he shot for Rolling Stone
magazine, and his celebrity portraits of rock musicians such as John
Lennon, Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, and many, many more.

The workshop is being held at the Brooks Institute of Photography in
Santa Barbara, CA, and deals with making portraits without the use
of flash or artificial light. The intent is to learn to identify
and analyze the light source, learn how to integrate the environment
into the portrait, and to discuss which equipment and media is best
for existing light portraiture. There will be an opportunity to
work with live models and apply what has been discussed and taught.

I'm pretty stoked about this workshop because it will be the first
"professional" training I've had, and I can see how this may help
with some of the documentary work I've been doing. I'll let you know
how it all turns out.
