Hi!

I've been a lurker since early 1999, when I set about building a system of
two Super Program bodies and an array of K-mount prime lenses. I had
elected not to join the discussion list because I didn't want a hundred
emails a day. Well, I just learned that a digest was available, so I've
just joined. You can expect to see my postings each week.

My favorite genre is photojournalism and people candids, by available
light. Since I've been into SLR photography only since May 1999--I used
Minox 35 for many years--I can't weigh in with a voice of experience with
Pentax equipment. But you can expect me to contribute in two ways:

1. Facts, figures, and collected opinions--I've obsessively garnered
opinions and ratings on nearly every Pentax K-mount prime lens, most Pentax
zooms (except AF), and third-party offerings. You'll find a fair share of
the same quotes on Stan Halpin's site, but many of mine are more
exhaustive. I haven't read every thread; if a message and its replies were
titled, "lens advice needed," I didn't always read them. My quotations are
gleaned more from postings whose subject lines were more specific ("Advice
sought on wide angle primes" or "Which 85?").

But you'll find me posting comments from other discussion sites, such as
Olympus, Nikon, and Contax, if the message had something to say about a
Pentax lens, or about a third-party lens that is (or was) available in
K-mount. If an M42 screwmount lens is especially noteworthy or far less
costly (or easier to find) than K-mount alternatives--think of the
85/1.8--I have collected comments on it, too.

I also can share selections from published lens reviews, but I must tread
carefully here, so as not to violate copyright.

2. Current and recent used prices--Just as obsessively, I have collected
used prices that I've found for these lenses. Want to know how much to
expect to pay for a certain lens? I can usually reply with 5 to 10 sample
prices, complete with URLs and dates.

And if you want to buy that lens NOW but can't find it, I just might be
able to tell you where you can.

I want to contribute in this way because during the 2+ years that I've been
building my lens collection (which now stands, I think, at 16, until I sell
a few off), I benefitted immensely from the comments and insights of many
of you. I found myself especially influenced by remarks from Yoshi, George
Stanley, Jerry Houston, Paal Jensen, David ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), Daphne, Roger
Stockton, Jonathan Castner, Rob Studdert, and the always-enjoyable
screwmount lover, Bill Casselberry.

Since I receive the digest (at work), I won't always see your queries or
replies until the following day. So if you're in a hurry to bid on a lens
or to decide whether it's for you, send me your query at work. If the
queries become too numerous, I'll have to switch to using my home email
address instead.
