In other words, I am not even now convinced that Pentax glass is great (sure, if I had a lot of primes, maybe). It is quite possible other brand zooms are better than Pentax zooms (not talking primes here, but zooms).
IMO, zoom lenses remain the weakness of Pentax 135 system. There were some good manual zooms in the past, but that day is gone. If you want good zooms, consumer or expensive, I vote for Canon. For that reason, I have an array of Pentax primes only.
The one thing Pentax really has going for it is the price.
Tamron has a new SP 28-75/2.8 for US$300 only. The Pentax version will be availabe by the end of this month. It is the most compact 2.8 zoom and worth to consider.
