For what it's worth:

Last spring at a vintage race I ran into one of the well-known
pro names in motor racing photography, who now shoots Canon.
I introduced myself; he asked how I liked my (just-acquired) LX.

He said he once used LXen and liked them a lot, but became dis-
satisfied with the waning of Pentax's pro accommodation/support
program. In particular, he had been finding it harder and harder
to get the quick-turnaround repair service that apparently had
been part of the program, and at last had to resort to slipping
bodies in "through the back door" to techs he knew at Pentax.
About this time Canon approached him, offered him the moon and
the stars, etc., so he switched.

So perhaps there's more to the "pro" vs. "non-pro" issue than
just the quality of the hardware?
