Actually, it should be just the opposite. If you configure the printer settings to reflect that you're using more absorbent (lower quality) paper, the printer should shoot less ink in each droplet to compensate for the higher dot gain of the paper. At least my Epson 820 does this. Printing to transparency sheets takes the most ink, run of the mill copier paper the least, if I set the printer configuration to match the paper type. > If I print a lot of 8x10's I use a lot of ink.
