Hi Jens,
Exactly!!!
If anyone wish to make any kind of statement by bringing out Pentax, it
would be that you are different from others and made a conscious decision to
use Pentax. Remember, anyone can buy C/N/M if they so wish, but choosing
Pentax usually comes from a very deliberate and conscious decision. It
generally shows that you know something about the camera and perhaps the
photography. If someone goes for a screw mount Pentax for example with a
reason for the cost, it shows he/she can skillfully use it. Pentax is the
enthusiasts' camera.
I rather want to be seen with Pentax :-)

It is so obvious that Pentax has been deliberately treading on this path in
the past. Their products have always been different from others (and
affordable).

Hence the enthusiasts' camera. I am very happy that Pentax is like that.
Others may differ :-)
And if I need other brands for some specific purpose which I desperately
need and can afford it (fast 400mm with the IS etc) and if Pentax do not
happen to offer that particular tool, I have no hesitation to buy Canon (but
such need to justify stashing out a fortune just for that is unlikely). But
for the everyday enjoyment of the photography, Pentax is the best for me.
Just my opinion :-)
Cheers,
Ken
