The case is that if the camera AF is able to nail the shot with super telephotos with 
miniscule DOF shooting a 50mm lens at F:8 should cause no problem. Mind you, just like 
with MF it is important where you put your plane of focus. The 50 L/mm barrier yields 
no meaning in the shooting conditions you suggest. 
These test simply state that AF systems aren't perfect and given all the time in the 
world with properly calibrated cameras and loupes and god knows what, a person can 
focus more precisely. In the case 3. above theres no meaningful differences as long as 
you put the plane of focus at same place.
