Often I heared these things about the Tamron-made 28~105, and I would
say they are just not true.
If you say the Sigma is lousy, then the Tamron can't be sucking.

I bought mine ("SMC Tamron" <grin>) along with the MZ-3 body.
However, I found the Sigma tempting because of it's faster aperture of
2.8~4.
The shop assistant wouldn't want to commit himself with any of these
lenses, so I asked him to give me the possibilty of having a workout.

So I went into the street and shot comparable pics with the Sigma and
Tamron wide oopen and half closed at three focal lenghts each, near and
far.
Soon, the my cartidge was exposed.

I thought, if can't see any difference on standard prints, I would make
my decision upon f/2.8 - but there was a difference!
Oh man, indeed!
The SMC-Tamron beats the pants off the Sigma!!!
-Contrast!!!
-Sharpness!
-Barrel Distortion!!!
-At all lenghts & apertures

I was so marveled, you can even see the difference on 3,5*5 prints
(which is 9*13 cm, here)!
In addition, the "SMC-Tamron" incorporates original Pentax electronics
and SMC coating, so flare is no issue at all.
I am using it alongside with my FA*'s (24, 85, 300) - it is no dog at
all!
I would recommend it!!!
Nonetheless, I'd like to compare it to the 3.2~4.5 and FA 28~70/4 AL in
the same manner one day.

BTW:
My wife got her MZ-5n from ebay along with this very lens.
Just yesterday, after we had kept an eye on our photographical habits
for a while, we decided that we would not need two of them, so I will be
selling mine.
*Mint* in box, hood, caps.
Price in April 2001 was EUR 300,-
Anyone an offer?
After all, it's Friday!
:-)
In case of interest, I could send you the most interesting scans of the
Sigma/SMC-Tamron battle offline. Also of course pix of the lens.

Yours,

Thomas
