I basically "stole" my dad's Pentax HV something when I was 12. He had
a Rollie TLR and some other range finder 35 he brought back from Europe
after WWII and were beginning to rust out but the Pentax was his first
SLR. We were stationed overseas in the Philippine Islands. I
absolutely marveled over the controls, played with the focusing (I think
it was only stop down) but simply marveled at the precision of the beast.
He went through a Spotmatic then an ME but is now basically confined to
an IQ-Zoom P&S. When I got older and had some income I started with an
SP-500 then an SP-II followed by some M series which I still have.
My 9 year old is showing a lot of interest in my K-1000. Teach them a
camera is a precision tool and not a toy. Then stand back and watch
them run rings around you with their creativity.
Regards,
Steve S.
