So far, with macro, I agree with you.
As a matter of fact, I prefer the older
Pentax tubes without diaphragm coupling.
You don't have to keep mashing the DOF
preview knob, and they give DOF preview
to cameras that don't have the knob.
Mind, I rarely take moving critter shots
in macro.

Sometimes less is more.
