A store showed me the *ist 35mm.  We tried an old K-mount lens on it and the
camera would not close the lens down during exposure.  We tried a newer lens
with the "A" on it normally.  Looks like those who have a few old K-mount
lenses will be out of luck with the *ist-D.  But we'll wait and see.
