>OK, Cotty, I will bite. How much money have you actually lost on the D60? >None what-so-ever, I'll bet. Just because the newer ones are cheaper, and >resale value is a fraction of what you paid for it, doesn't mean you have >lost money on it. You have had a DSLR for a year, used it, enjoyed it. >Anyone else who did paid the same as you. Those of us that waited, did not >have those benifits. I still know people who don't have a personal computer >because the price keeps coming down and they don't want to waste the money, >in the mean while I have been using them for 22 years. Think of all the >money they saved, think of all the convience they have missed.
Fair comment. Okay, perceived value for money is low with a DSLR in that case. I Paid 1600 body only October last year. Going price used/mint/ boxed etc seems to be around half that. So 800 over the course of nearly a year to have/enjoy/use a DSLR. Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining (despite being British ;-) because it's a hobby and therefore I don't feel the need to justify cost (to anyone else other than the SO and the credit card). If I were working full time PJ I'd have a pair of 1Ds's and lots of investment. I guess what I am pointing out here is that not all folks see things this way and have to justify the cost to themselves. To those people - be prepared for a hefty devaluation if buying the *ist D. Value-for-money aside, will it be worth it? Without hesitation: YES.
