Fair comment. Okay, perceived value for money is low with a DSLR in that
case. I Paid �1600 body only October last year. Going price used/mint/
boxed etc seems to be around half that. So �800 over the course of nearly
a year to have/enjoy/use a DSLR.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining (despite being British ;-)
because it's a hobby and therefore I don't feel the need to justify cost
(to anyone else other than the SO and the credit card). If I were working
full time PJ I'd have a pair of 1Ds's and lots of investment.

I guess what I am pointing out here is that not all folks see things this
way and have to justify the cost to themselves. To those people - be
prepared for a hefty devaluation if buying the *ist D.

Value-for-money aside, will it be worth it? Without hesitation: YES.
