Does anyone have the hood for the K24/3.5? Is that similar/the same as a current one? Thanks, Kostas
Hi Kostas. I have one. It is a square plastic one, made for both 20/4 and 24/3.5. Quite shallow, so probably a close fit for 20/4 + filter but a bit too shallow for the 24/3.5, especially if this lens is used without any filter.
Sigmas hoods are indeed interesting, as Joe pointed out, although a tulip hood is not, by definition, better than a square one. They give about the same result as the tulip form is meant to "reproduce" the effect of square hood but on a round form. The real "full" tulip hood would have "pointed" petals. The lens + tulip hood is easier to pack in a shoulder bag as it is only as wide as the lens.
The trick is to get the longest hood that won't vignette. The Sigma 62mm looks a bit shallow.
Your best bet is to buy a round 58mm Pentax plastic hood for the K-series "135/2.5 200/4 85-210mm" lenses and to cut it in tulip form with a sharp knive, checking your "de-vignetting" work on a translucid paper taped on the film rails (with lens at f22 pointed at a light bulb). It involves some work but no other hood will give you as much shading. If you intend to use 2 filters at the same time, work with both filters on the lens.
I you go this way, tell me off-line. I must have an extra 200/4 hood.
