Your pc world is upside down. Apples are the original tinker's delight, started as a home computer company in a garage.
When they held more than 50% share of the PC market, they were as big a pain as the IBM PC's. Now that they are 10% of the market or less, they have to make a better product to survive.
For a while, the office was part Apple and part IBM PC. The Apple users were always geeks of some sort, and proud of it. The IBM PC users were less intense, just wanting to get the job done.
A lot is still the same today...
