I looked through my manual and did not see where it says that. Can
you give me a page reference?

I could have sworn I found it in the paper manual (titled "Basics") but I can't find it today. In the software help file is the following note on the "Photo Formats and Types" page.

You'd think they'd make a feature like this more obvious.

Note: "Panoramic" in the scanning software does not refer to photos taken with standard 35mm panoramic cameras (such as panoramic throwaway cameras). These cameras have frames that are the same width as a standard 35mm frame, but only about 1/3 of the vertical space of the frame contains image information. The panoramic film strip types in the scanning software are for scanning 35mm film strips taken with rotating panoramic camera equipment. These photo types treat the entire strip as a single frame. The photo scanner will scan a portion of the strip equivalent to about 5 standard 35mm frames (about 7 3/8" or 187 mm).
