Janosch Heinz: Sunset1
Beautiful clouds. I find myself wondering if perhaps the bottom part of the
image could have been cropped half-way up the dark area.

Martin Mielke: Tubing
Nice geometry and a sweet colour. Very restful image for an action shot!

" Jogging "
by Bernd Scheffler
I like the nice sharp foam and the tiny silhouetted person. The person is
running into something fuzzy and unidentifiable that bothers me a little.

" Sunset with Drying Octopusses "
by Thomas Moraitis
Without the caption and the title, I am pretty sure I would've identified the
things on the line as something quite different from octopi ... I really like
that lamppost.

" Balloon Ride "
by Steven Desjardins
Oh, the colours! Wow!

" Gums "
by John Coyle,
I wonder. I am having trouble with this one. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing
calling me either. I suspect it's because it's (of necessity) a small image
overall, and perhaps the subject and composition would be more impressive in a
larger presentation?

" Cumberland Falls at Night "
by Grant Reed III
As I'm the reason he didn't have a cable release or a steady tripod ... and as
I'm the one who scanned it ... no criticism from me. I will mention that Grant
had only a couple of hours earlier discovered that his camera has a Bulb mode,
so this was really something new he was trying.

" Receding Tide "
by Harald Rust,
Nice geometry, nice use of a wide-angle. And I like the colour, too.

" Rhythm "
by Facit
Great colour and composition. Actually, without the last sheep it would be a
very different picture, but I think it *would* work.

" Troublesome Creek, June 29, 2003 "
by Jim Moniz
Great colour, and I love water scenes. I think it would look great in a BIG
print.

" Blackwater River "
by David J Brooks
I can't comment on this one fairly, because as a matter of very personal
prejudice I don't care for IR ...

" Musee du Louvre "
by Andrew Wong
Leaves me wanting to see the rest ...

" Notre Dame From Upstream "
by Joseph Tainter
Like the lighting.

" Window on Lisboa "
by Daniel Bachmann
Just goes to show you CAN make well-exposed, serious images with a "point &
shoot." Anyway, I'm partial to window pictures. Neat.

" Fireworks-3 "
by Jeffrey
I like it, I like it. The fireworks are in just the right part of the frame.

" Fountains at Bellagio "
by Francis M. Alviar
Nice job showing the scale, and the composition is good. Are the silhouettes
slightly unsharp, or is that just the scan?

" Cactus Flower "
by Dan Matyola
I'm also reeealll partial to flowers. Though I think I would've been tempted to
centre this one. Handheld in macro mode? Aren't those Optios cool?!

" At My Back Garden "
by Prasanta Chakraborty
Ah, THIS flower is centred. Question ... how did you get so much colour out of
Neopan???

" Lotus "
by Gerhard Wanninger
I like the colours and the way the flower plays against the background. I think
that this one might be sllliiiiiiiightly better if the flower weren't centred
but in fact a little left of centre of the frame. Maybe?

" Little Bee "
by Ollen Mullis
That bee is sure sharp! I wonder though if the picture might be a bit bright
and oversaturated, in general? but a nice sharp macro.

" Tulip "
by Dick Jones
That's sure different, and a really simple composition. I wonder why I don't
think of trying things like that.

" Whistful Dragon "
by Mark Cassino
.. and the Master shows us again how it's done. I can't criticise Mr Cassino!

" Swallowtail "
by Bob Sullivan
Not sure what I think about this presentation.

" Sleepyhead "
by Bill Owens
A cool shot by any standard -- and it's another Optio! (I'd love to get that
close to an owl in shootable light.) Nice & sharp & interesting.

" Sea Gull ... Take Picture "
by Butch Black
Yep, that works.

" Bellbird "
by Max McRae
Love bird photos. Is that haze over the head area a flare problem?

" Cat TV "
by Steve Larson
Tsk tsk. Tell that cat that sitting so close to the monitor is bad for
eyesight. She obviously needs a grandma to tell her these things!!

" Doe Eyes "
by Bill Sawyer
I actually didn't notice a sharpness problem, but the out-of-focus leaf in
front of one eye kinda spoils it for me. Not that one can afford to be too
picky about photos of these skittish critters.

" Osprey "
by Amita Guha
It's a nice composition, Amita, but the osprey being so small in it, I don't
think the photo ends up being really about the osprey. About the osprey's
neighbourhood, yeah.

" Spaghetti Cat "
by Gianfranco Irlanda
It's an interesting scene. I find the cat gets a bit lost in the background
pattern. Wonder if a colour version would have solved that?

" Lynda "
by Fred Widall
Another Optio! This is a nice choice of background for your portrait and isn't
it cool how the little p&s can handle the flash+ambient lighting? Maybe,
though, the portrait might have been a little nicer if the camera were higher --
looking straight at her instead of up from below.

" MASH "
by Paul C. Perkins
Looks like you captured the mood!

" Manuel "
by Albano Garcia
Mr Garcia is another Master that I dare not criticize.

" In Thought "
by Jonathan A. Donald
Nice moment.

" Look Daddy! "
by Boris Liberman
Great expression. Is that a Pillsbury Doughboy? Looks like the one my daughter
occasionally "borrows" from me.

" Stone "
by Dag Thrane
Oh my! Talk about capturing the moment! You caught the millisecond!

" The Dance "
by Ric Douglas
"They liked it ... " ... I can see why.

" The Demonstration "
by Frank Theriault
Like you said in your caption -- timeless. Especially since you shot it in B&W.

" Faces "
by Peter Davies
Oh. Wow.

" Bacardi night life "
by Derby Chang
Well, I like it. Not sure I can verbalize Why. It's cool.

" The Clown "
by M. Gil Menz
Kinda wonder what's behind the expression. Sort of like the Mona Lisa.

" Doll 2003 Brisbane Australia "
by Grant
Another Optio shows its stuff. No, that's not fair. Another photog shows his
stuff, uncompromised by an Optio. Presumably on a tripod? (2 sec., really sharp)

" Abstract Yellow "
by Peter J. Alling
yeah, that's some serious yellow ...

" The flowers of evil #1 "
by Karoly Kovacs
that's a really pretty photo, especially considering the subject.

" No Title "
by Arthur Hsu
.. and it doesn't need a title either. It's just a lovely image.

" Sunny Day In Paris "
by Valery Zasedatel
Interesting. I think the frame makes the image. Would like more information
about the optic.

" Black Shoes "
by Youri Shostak
That's a different still life subject. I wonder, if it were slightly
lighter ... ?

" Three in the Fog "
by Christian Skofteland
Nice. Nice & simple.

" October "
by Bruce Dayton
That picture says it all.

" Moonbow at Cumberland Falls, Kentucky "
by E.R.N. Reed
Next ...

" Terrace "
by G. Sridhar
I like it!

" Yellow Chairs "
by Ann Sanfedele
uh ... they look white to me ... <grin>
they also look very classy.

" Wrought Iron "
by Gerald Lewis
Ooh. Sharp & graphic.

" Barrage Nautique "
by Hamiche Samir
I think there must be a story here, that we haven't been told.

" Dock Spot "
by Robert Poe
Nice geometry.

" Window "
by BigButt
'Nother nice graphic one.

Well, this was my first attempt to produce a critique of the PUG. (I recognized
the hypocrisy in my complaining that others weren't doing it.) I hope I haven't
offended anyone.
