Actually, I think the XX-L has pretty decent matrix-metering and is compensating for the extreme contrast in Boris's case. While the ME Super is averaging the bright light. It does not sound like a misfunction at all.

I have a question - I've pointed my ZX-L with 50 mm lens attached and
set to f/1.7 at the usual tungsten light bulb. It showed 1/350 sec.
Then ME Super with same lens and same aperture showed 1/2000 sec. I
went almost ballistic but then I decided I use a wall as a test case.
ZX-L gave me 1/20 sec and ME Super gave me 1/30 sec which I suppose is
the same, because ME Super does not show half stops of shutter speed.
I do suppose the meter on ME Super works.

I wonder why so much a difference in the first case. By the way,
ZX-L's spot metering showed 1/4000 sec (f/1.7) if spot metered off the
lamp.

I expect the ME Super meter is a little bit more colour sensitive than the
ZX-L meter.
Test them both against a plain gray target using daylight illumination and
see if they come up closer.
