I haven't received mine yet, but several of the reviews I've read say that the default setting is somewhat soft.
The reviews I've seen also indicate that the default sharpening is minimal-to-none. That's the Way It Should Be as far as I'm concerned. You can always add sharpening later. Trust the user to decide how much (and what type) is appropriate.
