Working distance and background control.
A 200mm puts you farther away than a 100, and
often lets you be more selective in background.
But the 200 is heavier and may require a heavier
tripod.  It is also bigger.

The TC costs you sharpness.

I think the best compromise in a field lens is a slow
(f4) 100mm that goes half life size.  Very useful.

Hmmm..ok, I can understand that. What are the differences then between a
(so called) 100mm and 200mm macro lens? Are there any particular
disadvantages to a 50mm lens & a x2 converter?
